ABC has been working closely with the University of Washington as it has moved closer to the realization of a dream to create a world-class center for construction research. Once completed, there will be no other facility comparable in the United States.
The U of W’s Northwest Center for Construction Education and Research will aid construction management students in better understanding construction concepts, methods, technologies, and processes through hands-on experiences. Students will learn about productivity and sustainable construction technologies. A portion of the U of W construction management education will be conducted at the new center, scheduled for initial operation in the fall of 2008. The U of W is procuring research grants for this unique facility that will sustain its continued operation.
The Northwest Center is entering into Phase II, of a two-phase construction process, funded entirely with donations. The U of W owns the building at the former Sandpoint Naval Air Station, but the improvements must be paid with non-state funds.
ABC is proud to hold its January general membership meeting at the Sandpoint facility, to display the future of construction to ABC members and guests. There will be a panel of speakers discussing the importance of this facility, as well as how
to hire graduates from the Construction Management program. For information on attending this meeting, please contact Della Dawn Fallah at (425) 646-8000, (800) 640-7789.
